Aishwarya Rai now known as Aiswarya Rai Bachchan was born 1 November 1973. She is sometimes simply known as Ash or Aish.

She was a Miss World 1994 and is an Indian actress. She speaks several languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil and Tulu. She gave up her studies in architecture to concentrate on the modeling career. This led to her becoming a Miss World and she spent a year in London as a Miss. Following this, and thanks to her photogenic looks she went on to pursue her acting career.

Her first movie, "Iruvar", was completed in 1997. Apart from Indian films that she started in, between the years 1999-2005 she also appeared in Bride and Prejudice in 2004. She received 2 awards for her work, earning her FilmFare Best Actress Award. From 2006 till today, she continued acting in Indian movies and made an appearance in The Pink Panther 2. Thanks to her involvement in Indian movie industry, she was awarded a Female Star of the Decade in Macau. On a personal note away from acting, she is an ambassador for The Eye Bank Association of India.

She was in a long term relationship that ended in 2001 and married an actor Abhishek Bachchan in April 2007 after a 3 month engagement.

Even though she is an acclaimed Indian actress with little involvement in the US movie industry, she is still popular world-wide, appearing on the cover of the "Time" magazine and has her own wax figure in Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in London since 2004. She appeared on Late Show with David Letterman, Oprah, Martha Stewart's show in 2009 and Tyra Banks Show in the same year. Aiswarya and her husband are regarded as a supercouple in their homeland India which is where reside.
